About

Kristiwootenheadshot.hires_.jpg

Hi! I'm Kristi York Wooten (she/her), a writer and journalist based in Atlanta. I work with the Georgia Public Broadcasting/ NPR news teams as a digital director, editor, writer, and producer of feature stories, interviews, and the GPB News Weekend newsletter.

My work appears in The New York Times, The Economist, The Atlantic, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and many others.

My first national byline was in Andy Warhol's Interview magazine in 1992. That same year, I began my career at Turner Broadcasting in NYC and later gained experience in radio, print, and agency work, while also writing about music for popular magazines and newspapers.

In 2007, I created Sustenance Group, a consulting firm specializing in strategy, events, and communications for nonprofit organizations. I served as president of the Atlanta Press Club and led the organization through the 2020 election season and produced high-profile Newsmaker events, voter education forums, and interviews with elected officials.

Pure Pop for Now People features my interviews, reviews, essays, and news articles covering music, arts, politics, civil and human rights, and global health.
