R.I.P. Tony Wilson

I was never a big Joy Division fan, but I have always loved New Order, and I interviewed Peter Hook in 1994. All New Order fans know that the band would not have existed – or at least not in the same, glorious state – if it hadn’t been for Tony Wilson.

Every music scene needs its own champion, and for Manchester, that was Tony Wilson. A TV journalist, club owner, crazy man and music fan, Wilson brought Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays to the world, giving us loads of drug-addled electronic pleasure (and Bez) for decades to come.

Not to mention the fact that the movie about Wilson’s life, 24 Hour Party People, is one of the best biopics ever!

We’ll miss you, Tony!
